Independent Living Services

Our Independent Living (IL) program began in the mid-1980s. As needs have evolved, our programs have expanded to address specific areas in the community.

Our IL program includes services that target:

  • IL Case Management Services for youth currently residing in community living arrangements. Youth currently residing in community living arrangements approved by DSS are eligible for Independent Living Case Management Services. These services may include using the Ansell-Casey Assessment Tool along with concerted support to implement the youth's plan in the transition to independence.
  • Independent Living Mentoring Services that support emancipated teens in their IL arrangements. People Places also offers specialized mentoring to support emancipated teens in I.L. arrangements. This service provides the final piece of a client's transition to independence, providing a higher level of independence while also giving the support needed to succeed and excel.
  • Group Training for our Treatment Foster Care clients and community children to prepare them for eventual emancipation and independence. For adolescents preparing for independence, we offer groups on how to find and keep a job, on human sexuality, education support and daily living skills. For youth and adults, we have developed special groups combining clinical support and skill training for such areas as Anger Management and Surviving Sexual Abuse. Group sessions are offered to youth placed in our treatment foster care program and to youth from our local communities.
