Run for the Roses Ride With Pride’s first Kentucky Derby Party was held under a tent on the grounds of the South River Grill on May 7. Over 120 guests attended the event. Guests watched the Kentucky Derby on a large screen TV, bid on silent auction items, and purchased keys to a Treasure Chest of prizes. The event raised more than $2,600 for the Ride With Pride Program.

SPECIAL OLYMPICS EQUESTRIAN EVENT More than two dozen Special Olympics athletes from Rockbridge and Augusta counties came together on August 27 to compete in Area 5’s first Special Olympics equestrian event. The day was filled with smiling faces as athletes excitedly mounted their horses and rode into the arena to earn their ribbons. The festivities began with the opening ceremonies and the lighting of the Olympic torch followed by English and Western Equitation, trail and dressage classes, and relay races. By the end of the day, every rider went home with at least one medal and ribbon and a story to tell.

Ride With Pride, CART (Charlottesville Area Riding Therapy), and Spirit Therapeutic Riding Program of Afton teamed up for the first “Triple Crown” Golf Tournament held on Friday, September 23 at Wintergreen Resort’s Stoney Creek Golf Course. More than 40 golfers participated, bringing in more than $3,000 for the programs. Ride With Pride’s sponsors included Armstrong Roofing, Zeta-Meter, Inc., South River Grill, Middlebrook Ruritan Club, and Woodrow Wilson Rehab.
