Available to both our TFC clients as well as community youth referrals, People Places' Summer Training Program (STP) is designed to provide both therapeutic and pre-vocational training experiences. The focus is on the present and the future: What can a youth do today to build a pathway to where (s)he wants to be tomorrow? With work as the context, STP addresses social skills and learning goals from a practical and positive perspective, without undue focus on deficits or past troubles.
STP youth receive specific training in occupational social skills, job expectations and job completion skills. Training sites are diverse and represent a variety of work experiences and learning opportunities. The youth earn money by completing assignments and demonstrating work-related social skills. As youth progress, they may earn assignment to more demanding sites with somewhat higher stipends.
STP also includes an Experiential Day each week. The youth will be provided the opportunity to have a new educational, interpersonal or social experience.
